What is rum and what types of rum are available?

What is rum and what types of rum are available?
Connoisseurs of strong alcohol respect rum – a drink enveloped in sea romance and legends of the past. Today is what my blog is about.
Manufacturing methods:
Agricultural – for the production, cane juice is used without sugar separation. This method is very expensive and, as a result, is almost not used since rum can be made only during the harvest of sugar cane. As well, there are no remarkable differences in the taste. Popular in Haiti and some overseas French departments.
Industrial – Alcohol is made from sugarcane molasses before it they are removed. According to this technology, about 90% of the drink is produced; the waste-free process allows you to sell the separately prepared refined sugar.
Tafia – molasses waste, creating a low-quality product. Alcohol from it is generally only found in less-developed countries and is not exported abroad.
Varieties by color:
During the aging process, rum, like other spirits, changes its color.
Light (white – white or silver – silver / white / light) – so named because of its colorlessness, which is obtained after aging in metal vats. Metal cannot affect the shade of the final product. This variety is soft, with a light taste and is widely used in various cocktails.
Golden – golden (amber – paille / amber) – aged in oak barrels, medium density, with an amber tint, brightly emphasizing the caramel flavor with spices. To preserve, color filtering is not performed.
Dark (brown, red, black). Oak barrels are burned to give the drink a rich taste, with a fragrant and burnt aroma, alongside a strong taste of molasses, caramel and spices. It is often used in cooking and in the preparation of cocktails, punch and grog. It can also be flavored with lemon, orange, coconut, mango or spices (flavored or spiced).
Rum varieties:
This alcoholic beverage can vary considerably in strength. Manufacturers of different countries prefer different alcohol content, from 40 to 80 percent. There is a traditional classification by alcohol content:
• rum elixir – is drunk in its pure form, the taste is sweet and rich, and its strength is 30-40 percent;
• strong rum (premium aged, rhum vieux, anejo) – aged for more than 5 years in oak barrels. It varies from 40 to 57 percent, there are varieties with an alcohol content of 60-70 percent;
• sustained. The peculiarity of this drink is its long exposure (5-12 years). Aged Roma has a strength of 75% and above. Drinks are exclusively undiluted.

What is Vermouth and what are the differences between the types of Vermouth?

What is vermouth and what are the differences between the types of Vermouth?
Vermouth is a multicomponent drink flavored with herbs and spices. More precisely, it is a whole family of drinks. Initially, the basis for the preparation served as a white wine. Most often, wormwood is taken as the basis of vermouth flavoring. Translated from the German name and means – wormwood wine. It is the wormwood that accounts for at least half of the aromatic herbs used in the manufacturing of any vermouth. The name of the drink comes from the King of Bavaria during the Middle Ages who “checked” the drink.
What is vermouth?
There is evidence that the first vermouth recipe was compiled long ago in the V-IV c. BC. by Hippocrates themselves. Initially, it was a medicinal drink designed to tone up the body and treat diseases of the digestive tract. But on an industrial scale, it was first made in Italy, in Turin, in 1786. The city is famous for its vineyards, where rich crops and herbs are harvested each year. Therefore, Italy is considered the birthplace of vermouth.
It is in Italy that one of the most famous brands of the drink is produced – Martini. The main competitor is Vermouth Cinzano, famous since 1857 and also originally produced in Turin.
In addition to wormwood, during manufacturing, coriander and juniper fruits, lemon balm, oregano, cloves, ginger, yarrow, cinnamon, etc can all be added. The taste depends on the selected ingredients. Unfortunately, the proportions are kept a secret by the manufacturers.
Initially, vermouths were made from white grape varieties, but the modern drink is also made from pink and red grapes. Wine makes up 80% of the volume of the product. The remaining 20% is made from plant extracts, alcohol (which improves the dissolution and serves as a preservative), and sugar syrup, which makes the drink sweet. During the making of red vermouth, caramel is added. Currently, winemakers prefer to take a wine base with a neutral taste, so as not to affect the spicy aroma of the drink.
To combine a large number of components, winemakers add chamomile, clove, and iris root infusions. A combination of extracts of vanilla, calamus and cardamom helps to consolidate the composition.
Action on the body:
Initially, vermouth was considered to be just a medicinal drink. It helped to tone up the body, improve blood circulation, increase appetite, and stimulate digestion. Like any alcoholic drink, it has warming properties. Thanks to the extract of wormwood, it is able to clean the bile ducts and normalize the production of enzymes.

How to make “Kamikaze” – a Japanese cocktail?

How to make “Kamikaze” – a Japanese cocktail?
“Kamikaze” is a type of Japanese cocktail, which will certainly please everyone. Despite this frightening name, this soft drink, with a pleasant taste, certainly has nothing to do with the typhoon Divine Wind, which destroyed everything in its path and earned itself such a title.
The name of the drink was given as a tribute to the Japanese suicide bombers who rammed American ships.
Immediately after the war, Kamikaze (cocktail) became the favorite drink of Americans and Europeans, from where it began its journey around the world. There is, however, another version of the origin of the drink; from a bartender in America, who believed that Kamikaze was the prototype of another drink called Gimlet.
Kamikaze is of great value among cocktail lovers.
This drink is very easy to prepare, no great knowledge is required for its preparation.
Classic cocktail “Kamikaze”:
Ingredients include squeezed orange juice (lime), orange liqueur and vodka (30 ml of each). Liquids are mixed with ice in a shaker (the bartender’s main tool). The resulting mixture is filtered into a martini glass through a strainer and a slice of lemon added.
Using the basis of the classic “Kamikaze”, other, equally pleasant and tasty cocktails are created:
Cocktail Kamikaze Lime. An easy alternative. Add 100ml of sparkling lime water to the classic cocktail. Serve in a tall glass.
Cocktail “Blue Kamikaze.” Orange liqueur is replaced by Blue Curacao. Lime juice is recommended. It creates a drink with a bright blue color and the taste does not change.
Cocktail “Electric Kamikaze”. Triple Sec liqueur is added to the Blue Kamikaze mixture. Mixed in equal quantities vodka, Blue Curacao, Triple Sec, lime (20 ml each) and ice. Then the cocktail is filtered into a chilled glass.
